OpenOffice Writer does not contain any readability tools and there are no add-on macros for it either. However Google Docs does under “Tools->Word count… Ctrl+Shift+C”! And since the advent of Google Gears Google Docs is always available with or without a web connection. It’s a great tool for preliminary checks.

However when there is a web connection this wonderful tool should always be used: http://wordscount.ezpublishing.com/beta.html. The stats are thorough and wonderful.

Now when using the above tools on this content the results differ. Why different results for the Flesch score when given identical input?

It is all good though. More tools to analyze means more time thinking and improving.
