Changing header & footer defaults with Firefox under Ubuntu

Filed under: Uncategorized — ioconnor @ 2:44 pm

Unfortunately the dialog boxes to control print options in Ubuntu have not been completed. You can not for instance change the default footer and header for example. Firefox under M$ has been properly coded to display and change these settings. Not under Linux though. At most under Linux you can change the settings for the current browser session. (And they will revert back to the old settings when you next reboot…) Under Linux the actual Firefox configuration file must be edited by hand. Furthermore there are arcane commands that make no sense unless you have a reference handy. For example “&T, &U, &D, &P, &PT” etc.. Mozilla has a reference to these arcane parameters here: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_:_FAQs_:_About:config_Entries

The best solution is to type the following in the URL line. (CTL-l)
about:config
Then search for “header” and clear these fields for all printers concerned. Repeat with the search term “footer”.
