Halloween & Bugs

Halloween has arrived, and is almost over, yet again. Reading about its history should be mandatory for all young kids but somehow I didn’t. Tonight it finally occurred to me that I should. It’s quite fascinating.

I was prompted to do this after listening to today’s Science Friday program on NPR. They talked about those yucky cockroaches. http://www.sciencefriday.com/videos/watch/10175. It was interesting in that it distinguished fear from disgust. Perhaps helping me understand my fear of snakes. Is the opposite of disgust appreciation as mentioned at the end?

If appreciation is merely one step away from disgust that would explain quite a bit. Perhaps the crew of that Virgin Atlantic flight that were fired today could be explained away with this concept. They were fired for calling their passengers “cockroaches” on FaceBook. Maybe they were merely showing a repressed appreciation for their customers?
